TONALPOWALLI - ANAHUAC CALENDAR

Anawak is known as the ancient territory of Mesoamerica, surrounded by water. This great cultural zone covers most of Mexico and Central America. The calendar is a knowledge made of repetitive cycles, it measured the daily activities of a certain time. Some of those, compared to the vastness of the universe, are just a brief moment. The beginning of the calendar begins in the synchronization between the stars and the earth’s surface. The corn and pyramidal bases were characteristic elements of the Mesoamericans of that time.

The complexity of the Anahuac calendar is that it measures both time and space at the same time. The Gregorian calendar that we all know only measures time. Since the dates are repeated cyclically, the celebrants of that time could predict some events.

The Tonalica is the astrological and prophetic dimension of the Anahuac calendar, which allowed us to link the energies of the cosmos with the destiny of the human being and the social group. Each tonal (energy) was understood as the energy that manifests itself at certain moment.

Although the Anahuac calendar cycles reflected the movements of the sky, its astrological part wasbased on the human gestation cycle.

The tonalica, is not properly astrology because its fuondation not only reflects the influence of the stars, but the influence of the cosmic cycles interacting with the cylces of human gestation, what could be called biorhythmia.

The ancient Mexicans calculated the human cycle in 260 days, counted from the gestation, until the date of birth. They called this cycle Tonalpohualli (the count of days). With planet Venus and they stars help, they could calculate, predict, see and decide results. For them the place or planet we live is considered feminine, the Earth Word, creator and Mother who conceives.

The Elder Jesus shares this wonderful reading and we can find him the beautiful town ofMazunte, in the pacific coast of Oaxaca.
